The new patent application of American electronic equipment giant Apple demonstrates the potential of blockchain for future timestamp creation and verification systems.
According to an application issued by the Patent and Trademark Office on Tuesday, Apple detailed a time-stamp verification project that combines some elements of blockchain technology with Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) tools.
The use case involved binds a piece of information to a specific transaction in the blockchain to form the state of the data at a specific time. If the data is modified, additional transactions can be created to modify the data.
Apple's application describes three ways to create timestamps, one of which revolves around a blockchain platform.
The project will generate a block with a timestamp, and then miners will add a block when verifying each transaction on the chain. This system belongs to what Apple calls a "multiple verification architecture", which means that before a new block is generated and added to the chain, another system will confirm the timestamp.
The application shows that Apple will consider using blockchain because of the decentralized security it provides.

"If any party tries to modify the nodes in the blockchain, the analysis of each hash equation of the block after the modified block becomes incorrect or incomplete. Each participant can see this incomplete area. Blockchain is different from their own copy of the blockchain. An incomplete blockchain will not be recognized by nodes."
The application shows that there are two benefits of using a decentralized ledger to store timestamps. Not only can the correct time be permanently saved, but if a single node is maliciously attacked, it can also protect the network from being affected.
