Eaton, a leading power management company, has launched its next-generation Tofino industrial security solution: the 9202-ETS MTL system. This advanced device is specifically designed to offer top-tier network protection for process automation systems. Unlike other solutions, the MTL Tofino system is easy to install and comes with the latest configuration software, ensuring robust defense against network vulnerabilities. It not only safeguards the plant from external cyber threats but also enhances uptime and process availability.
Roger Highton, Eaton’s Product Line Manager, emphasized the importance of securing industrial control and SCADA systems. He noted that while these systems may seem secure when disconnected, the growing use of open standards like Ethernet TCP/IP has exposed them to increasing risks. Traditional firewalls are not built for industrial environments, making them ineffective against modern cyber threats. Cyberattacks can lead to massive financial losses in critical infrastructure. The 9202-ETS offers an efficient, cost-effective security solution tailored for industries such as power, utilities, oil and gas, and water treatment.
The system features a Firewall Loadable Security Module (LSM), which analyzes network traffic based on predefined rules and supports major industrial protocols. A new EtherNet/IP Enforcer LSM enables deep packet inspection of CIP communications. Users can remotely configure Tofino and Netconnect LSM modules, offering greater flexibility. Additional LSMs, like Modbus and OPC monitors, provide detailed packet analysis, while the event logger LSM records security events and sends alerts. Options include pre-installed or separately purchased LSMs.
The 9202-ETS MTL device delivers comprehensive protection for DCS, PLC, SCADA, and other automation systems. Its stealth design—without an IP address—makes it invisible on the network, effectively blocking threats without disrupting critical operations.
Tofino includes protocol-specific templates to simplify installation and pre-set rules for testing, ensuring configurations don’t interfere with plant operations. The Tofino Configurator helps identify and resolve rule issues during setup.
Built for harsh environments, the 9202-ETS is rugged and durable, featuring a metal housing suitable for DIN rail mounting. It operates in extreme temperatures ranging from -40°C to +70°C and is certified for hazardous areas under Class 1 Division 2 and ATEX Zone 2. The device meets global standards such as NERC, ANSI/ISA, and IEC, ensuring long-term reliability and secure performance.
In addition to the Tofino series, Eaton provides a wide range of Crouse-Hinds products, including cable accessories, housings, lighting, signals, and more, designed for challenging environments across industries like mining, oil and gas, and renewable energy.
Eaton is a global leader in power management, offering advanced solutions for electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical systems. With over $22.6 billion in sales in 2014, the company empowers customers worldwide with energy-efficient, safe, and sustainable technologies. Employing around 103,000 people, Eaton serves customers in 175 countries, delivering innovative power management solutions that meet today's demanding needs.
