In the 2007 Photonics Exhibition, light-emitting diode (LED) manufacturers Guangbao, Yiguang and Dongbei, etc., all rented large-scale booths to display their LED-related products, and in addition to applications such as vehicles and outdoor lamps, the operators chose the same. The backlight of the LCD terminal is the biggest focus of this year.
Lite-On pointed out that this year, with the theme of "styLED", Lite-On has set up three major scenarios in the Photonics Exhibition, including the use of digital home activities, the use of digital offices and mobile communications, and the extension of outdoor LEDs. LCD TV backlight module, DVD drive, digital photo frame and smoke detection alarm, etc. In addition, Lite-On also exhibited full-color LED, high-brightness and high-power LED products.
Among them, Lite-On in the venue in 2007, exhibited its newly developed LED backlight for 46-inch LCD TVs. It mainly uses 1,200 red, green and blue LEDs, which are used in 400 Arrays. Insiders said that due to the current LED application in large-size LCD TVs, the price difference and CCFL are still high. It is roughly estimated that 46-inch LCD TVs, if 20 lamps are used, each lamp has 2 US dollars. The cost of the backlight unit is only about 40 US dollars; while the LED is calculated at a unit price of NT$10, the price of 1,200 pieces is NT$12,000 (about 400 US dollars), and the price difference is nearly 10 times that of CCFL, so it is short-term. It is still not easy to replace the CCFL and become the main backlight for large-size LCD TVs.
This year, Yiguang exhibited its LED backlight modules for 5.7-inch, 6.5-inch, 7-inch, 8.5-inch, 9-inch, 15-inch and 37-inch LCD TVs. Yiguang pointed out that all sizes except 37-inch are mass-produced. Models, but 37-inch red, green, and blue LED backlights are currently in contact with customers. It is expected to be shipped as soon as the end of this year, and this product is mainly based on 700 LEDs.
Dongbei participated in the optoelectronic exhibition for the first time this year. There are 22-inch wide-screen LED backlights and other products on display. Dongbei pointed out that this model is a mass production model and has been handed over to end customers for production. Except for Dongbei, it also exhibited 40 and 42-inch LED backlight products, but 42-inch mainly used white LEDs.
As for foreign companies, this year Seoul Semiconductor also has a large-scale booth to display LED-related products. Seoul Semiconductor may wish to become the No. 1 in Korea and the 10th largest LED manufacturer in the world in 2010.
