Oculus develops new technology - Half Dome zoom mechanism

This is the third day of the Facebook Developers Conference. If you think all the virtual reality (VR) news is over, then you are wrong. Oculus details some of the technologies it is developing. Some of them are related to the visualization of virtual reality and the comfort of the player, that is, focusing on different objects at different distances, which is achieved by a zoom mechanism called Half Dome.

Currently all VR helmets have a fixed focal plane, so when the user's eyes are focused at a reasonable distance, it will focus. Most developers work by working two meters away from the player, so when the project gets closer, they become blurred.

Solve this problem with the Oculus Half Dome's mobile screen for improved visual comfort and clarity. Its advantages include a wider field of view (FoV), which increases from 110 degrees to 140 degrees in the Oculus Rift. Moreover, Oculus has successfully integrated this mechanism into the Oculus Rift form factor without adding unnecessary weight.

Maria Fernandez Guajardo, head of product management, pointed out in the keynote speech of F8 that even such a mobile mechanism would not let users feel noise or vibration.
