Oculus is developing higher-end mobile VR than Gear VR

At present, VR mainstream devices are mainly divided into two categories: mobile VR and PC VR. The former is known for its features of portability, mobility, and low quality experience, while the latter represents an expensive, high-quality cable experience. Although the advantages of the two meet the different user experience needs, but Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg believes that they are not enough to represent the future of virtual reality platforms, real virtual reality devices should be both wireless and mobile High-quality experience.

At the recent Oculus Connect 3 conference presentation, Zuckerberg announced the arrival of this future VR device. The wireless prototype device, called Santa Cruz, was described as a bridge between the Oculus Rift and the Gear VR, which combined two types of devices that once stood side by side.

Zuckerberg also presented a very brief video of equipment demonstration at the meeting and claimed that the project is still in the early development stage. In terms of appearance, the device uses a similar frame design to the Oculus Rift, but it does not require a cable to connect to the PC. Instead, it is equipped with a lightweight computer at the rear and head position tracking using a camera sensor. Instead of the external tracking sensor used by the Oculus Rift.

However, after this short video, the details of the new equipment are still very pitiful, information on the time to market and the price is still waiting for Facebook to be announced at a future conference.
