Sha Xiaolan said: It is very difficult to complete the seamless splicing of the 500-meter ring screen of the bird's nest circumference, because this is not a problem of increasing equipment. After the equipment reaches a certain number, the difficulty is squared.
On the first day of the New Year's Eve, we put the projector up and used three projectors on a screen. At that time, I felt that I hoped to be bigger and able to meet the requirements of the broadcast. Later, the director was very excited after seeing it. Because a group of lights is 21 meters, 21 sets and 63 projectors are needed. How to connect them together can not be seen. In actual operation, they also encounter a particularly large technical difficulty. Many foreign counterparts think that this is impossible. However, in the second and third of this year, we basically completed the technical requirements, and completed the splicing in May. It was because of this scheme that I thought of using this image to determine the ignition scheme. This program provides a prerequisite for Li Ning's final realization of the air ignition ceremony.
High temperature weather, fear that the light will automatically go out
Sha Xiaolan said: Although I have done lighting design for various large-scale performances, I was nervous when I was at the opening ceremony. I told others that I was never so nervous.
Sha Xiaotong recalled that all the lights we used at the opening ceremony had automatic protection. When the temperature reached 45 degrees Celsius, the lights went out. Wait until it is below 45 degrees Celsius before you can turn it back on. On the day of the opening ceremony, in order to ensure that nothing was lost, we turned on the lights at 3 o'clock. At 5 o'clock, everyone waited quietly. It was very hot that day, like a sauna. When the athletes entered the ceremony, the temperature was already high, reaching 40 degrees Celsius, and the temperature was still rising at this time. I was anxious like an ant on a hot pot. I wanted to enter the venue and hurry. At this time, the temperature continues to rise. At the most important ignition moment of the Olympic Games, if one of the lights is off, then when Li Ning is ignited, there will be a screen that is black, so the image of the ignition will be greatly discounted if there are ten lights. It’s black, it’s over, it’s impossible to broadcast. I just turned outside, I didn't dare to say such a serious situation with other directors. At that time, I was in a hurry. Later, our staff said that they would blow with a fan. But how many blows, but fortunately, there was no accident, so I was really relieved when Li Ning was over.
Sha Xiaolan said: Actually, at 6 o'clock that evening, there was a lamp with thermal protection. It was the lamp to be used in Taiji’s program. After the lamp was broken, we decided that the lamp would not be turned on until the show. Open again 5 minutes before the start, so at least 15 minutes. Therefore, one of our staff members was waiting under the lamp until we started the show. We said that it was lit. Later, the Taiji show ended successfully, and we cheered.
Taking into account the aesthetic needs of East and West
The opening ceremony of the entire Olympic Games, the general director requested not only to reflect the taste, the use of light to achieve such an aesthetic concept of Chinese painting, but also requires that the science and technology content must exceed the Athens Olympic Games.
Sha Xiaotong said: In the lighting design of this opening ceremony, we are very psychologically stressed because we are asked to compare the Athens Olympic Games. We all know that the artistic atmosphere of the Athens Olympic Games is very strong, the color is very simple, the Olympic lighting in Athens has been used very well, but we stressed that the scientific and technological content must exceed him. Orientals and Westerners appreciate different habits. Orientals like to be colorful and bright, and there are certain differences between Westerners and Westerners. So we wanted to combine this difference at the time. The first half was very artistic, and the second half was colorful, but still had a taste.
For the use of digital lights, there are no examples of large-scale use in the world. In the program of Taiji, 80 sets have been used, which is the highest of the current images. We want to give modern technology dreams to the ancient Taiji. Light, it turns out that this program has indeed played a new role and is a reflection of the Olympics. Sha Xiaolan said: The lights of the opening ceremony will be adjusted almost once every two or three days. As long as the program moves, it will be adjusted. From the end of May to the later, all the lighting personnel are all wanted.
Zhang Yimou participates in lighting programming
Sha Xiaolan said: I used to work with Zhang Yimou too. "Turandot" is more powerful than other directors because he is a student of photography. Lighting is one of his compulsory courses. So it is easy to communicate with him. For example, he came up and said that this broadcast will be dominated by 4 billion TV viewers. He also likes lighting very much. When we were doing lighting programming, he came to us to do analog technology programming every week. He made his request very specific. He said to me: Xiaosha, you have to give up the aesthetics of all the previous lights. What I want this time is a tasteful light. Moreover, his request was very high. At the time, when we were in the light, we were slightly inaccurate. He could see it. It was also very rare. At the same time, Sha Xiaolan said that Zhang Yimou's energetic exuberance made him unimaginable.
I wanted to turn the nest into a dove of peace.
Sha Xiaolan said: The opening ceremony still left a lot of regrets. We are still dimming on the last day. If we give us a few more days, we will definitely do better. Later, due to the weather, the entire nest was covered with fog, which left us with some regrets. We had an idea to design the Bird's Nest as a dove of peace, using a searchlight to shoot wings and tails, and then use a fireworks to make a head. From the top, it is the biggest peace dove, but later due to funding, time and other issues, there is no achieve.
Sha Xiaolu said: We hope that some regrets can be made up at the closing ceremony, but it may be difficult, because the closing ceremony gives us only 16 hours of time, there is no synthetic time, and many of the lighting work of the closing ceremony can only rely on experience. The closing ceremony is always based on the principles of nostalgia, reluctance, and enthusiasm.
