Taiwan's first human lighting laboratory to further promote the establishment of LED industry

Supported by the Technical Department of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the ITRI cooperated with the University of Kyushu, Japan and announced on September 29 that Taiwan’s first human illumination laboratory was established to take the lead in investigating the impact of LED light sources on human physical and mental health, and To develop lighting applications for people with different needs, we expect that this laboratorium combining human engineering and modern lighting technology will provide the LED lighting industry application technology platform for Taiwan LED industry and develop high-value-added LED human lighting technology. Assist Taiwan's LED industry to further advance.

According to Xu Juemin, president of the ITRI, the global LED lighting market in 2015 may be as high as 26 billion U.S. dollars. The hardware technology used in LED lighting is the strength of the ITRI. Following the ACLED technology, I&G continued to search for new applications for LED lighting. How to use LED lighting energy-saving and high color rendering, light color controllability and Other characteristics, the introduction of outdoor and indoor lighting, so that LED lighting more in line with human needs, is the development of Taiwan's LED lighting system is a major issue.

Xu Juemin said that since 2009, the ITRI has begun cooperation with the human-illumination laboratory of Kyushu University in Japan and introduced the first-class Human Factors Engineering Laboratory in Japan to build the first international human-based lighting laboratory in Taiwan. In addition to LED nighttime sleep lighting research, this laboratory is also built on different lighting application scenarios to study and simulate different outdoor, indoor, daytime and nighttime lighting applications, and to provide a human-based lighting application technology platform.

An Pukuen, vice president of Kyushu University in Japan, also pointed out that Kyushu University has long been concerned about the physiological and psychological effects of LED on human beings and has made in-depth achievements. Since the school began signing MOUs with the ITRI in 2007, a new cooperation plan has been launched in 2009, the “Night Night Lighting Project”. The ITRI has designed the light source spectrum. Kyushu University focuses on human factors experiments. Market orientation and commercialization are the targets of R&D achievements. It is expected that both parties will continue to cooperate more closely in the future based on this.

At present, human beings are currently undergoing research in lighting laboratories, including: LED high-performance LED lighting system for daytime office lighting, high-value LED lighting system for human health, and optimal lighting Sleep interrupted night lighting and more. In the medium term, it is expected that a digital human-based lighting feedback technology will be established, and school lighting that is both healthy and focused, or energy-saving and low-carbon nighttime outdoor lighting will be developed.

The long-term goal is to provide an active or passive control system by combining different physiological sensors, communication and human database, so that the light sources in future life can automatically and intelligently provide suitable lighting sources according to individual physiological conditions, so as to achieve energy saving. Effects, and improve comfort and work efficiency, even for physical health.

In addition to the opening of the human illumination laboratory, ITRI and Kyushu University also held an international seminar on human factors illumination, 3D display, soft electronics, and 3DIC design and technology in ITRI on September 29th. The meeting invited all sectors of industry, universities, research institutes and Japanese trading companies to participate.
