The MAX9655 / MAX9656 are low-power switches that support the video distribution design in dual SCART set-top boxes. The MAX9656 also allows the user to select the composite video signal source that is transmitted to the VCR. If the functions of fully integrated dual SCART ICs are not required, these devices can provide users with a simple low-cost solution. The MAX9655 / MAX9656 integrate video filtering, switching, and amplification functions in a dual SCART solution. This integration avoids the complexity of adopting a completely discrete solution, thereby greatly reducing costs. SUNNYVALE, CA. October 13, 2008. Maxim Integrated Products (NASDAQ: MXIM) introduced the MAX9655 / MAX9656 * low-power switches that support video distribution in dual SCART set-top boxes. The device integrates the filtering, switching and amplification functions required for RGB and composite video signals in the set-top box. The reconstruction filters of both devices are optimized for standard definition signals, with a passband flatness of ± 1dB in the 9.5MHz band and an attenuation of 47dB at 27MHz. The MAX9656 also allows users to choose whether the composite video signal sent to the VCR comes from the TV SCART input or the encoder. The MAX9655 / MAX9656 integrate SCART video functions, avoiding the complexity of using a completely discrete solution, thereby greatly reducing the cost of set-top box design.

The MAX9655 / MAX9656 are powered by a single 3.3V power supply and consume very little quiescent current, which can meet the efficiency requirements of European set-top boxes. To further reduce power consumption, the MAX9656 also provides a low-power shutdown mode that consumes only 35µA.

The MAX9655 is available in a 16-pin QSOP package, and the MAX9656 is available in a 20-pin QSOP package. Both devices operate in the automotive temperature range of -40 ° C to + 125 ° C. The starting price of the chip is $ 0.50 (from 1,000 pieces, US FOB).
