The five frequency bands allocated globally for WiMax include: 700 MHz, 2.3-2.7 GHz, 2.7-2.9 GHz, 3.3-3.8 GHz and 5-6 GHz. In order to cover all frequency bands, PMC-Sierra will launch four RF chips. OEM can choose different chips as RF components for WiMax base stations and mobile communication equipment in these five different frequency bands. The multi-band RF chip can automatically identify and use specific frequency bands in different regions as well as the current GSM mobile phone that can automatically switch bands.

PMC-Sierra's chips are designed to meet different frequency bands. Sahejpal said, "OEM hopes to produce multi-band devices so that WiMax can quickly spread across different regional markets."

PMC-Sierra's RF series chips integrate multiple direct down-conversion RF transceivers, transmitter baluns, analog-to-digital converters, and Jedec standard baseband digital interfaces. On the basis of such RF chips, OEMs can add a power amplifier and a baseband media access controller to produce an IEEE WiMax standard that can support 802.16e-2005 and 802.16-2004, and the channel bandwidth range is 3.5-20 MHz. WiMax devices.
