Focus on 2017 China Travel Expo, VR takes you into Shanxi

Last week, I had the chance to attend the 2017 China Tourism Industry Expo held at the Tianjin Meijiang Convention and Exhibition Center. The event ran from September 1st through the 4th and really caught my attention this year. The organizers have placed a strong emphasis on the "Belt and Road Initiative" and the "Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei" collaborative development strategies. This year's expo aims to integrate tourism with other industries and drive innovation within the tourism equipment manufacturing sector. The overall exhibition space spanned an impressive 50,000 square meters, featuring 3,000 standard booths. The exhibition was divided into seven distinct themed areas based on its content. One of the most captivating sections was definitely the provincial tourism exhibition area. It drew quite a crowd, with many visitors eager to learn more about the unique offerings from different regions. Among these, the Shanxi exhibition area stood out for its rich cultural heritage and some truly remarkable specialty products like vinegar, Liuweizhai braised meat, Pingyao bowls, and Datong silverware. These exhibits gave visitors a deeper appreciation for Shanxi’s culture and traditions. What made the Shanxi exhibit even more interesting was their use of virtual reality (VR) technology. They used VR to provide an immersive experience, allowing attendees to virtually explore the province and get a feel for its charm. Walking through the exhibition felt like a journey into another world, especially when combined with the interactive elements provided by the VR displays. It was fascinating to see how modern technology was being leveraged to enhance traditional tourism experiences. Overall, the expo was a great success, showcasing not only the beauty and diversity of China’s various regions but also highlighting the potential for future growth in the tourism industry. I left feeling inspired by all the innovative ideas and the enthusiasm of both exhibitors and visitors alike. It seems clear that integrating new technologies with cultural heritage can create unforgettable connections and foster greater interest in exploring different parts of the country.
