Are you ready for today's VR (Virtual Reality)? The 2016 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) showed that smartphones are no longer the center of attention, and virtual reality has taken over as the most exciting trend in the tech world. VR devices range from high-end headsets costing tens of thousands of NT dollars to more affordable cardboard-style options under $20. The image shows the HTC Vive headset, which is expected to be one of the most expensive on the market. (Photo: Zeng Qianyi) Big names like Facebook, Samsung, Google, Sony, HTC, and Microsoft are all jumping on the VR bandwagon, whether through headsets or glasses, each trying to open the door to a fully immersive digital world. Beyond just boosting stock prices, how will VR translate into real-world revenue and profit? Imagine being deep underwater in a shipwreck, suddenly seeing a giant whale appear from the darkness. You hear a voice behind you and turn to see a group of fish swimming toward you. "Oh my god!" you scream, take off your headset, and return to the real world, catching your breath in your chair. This was the experience of a reporter testing the HTC Vive headset. It's easy to understand why HTC is partnering with game developers worldwide—VR offers an immersive experience that combines visuals, sound, and even touch, making users feel like they're truly inside the virtual world. Today, virtual reality isn't just a fantasy or a gamer's playground—it's becoming part of everyday life. In October 2015, the opening game of the US NBA was broadcast using VR technology, and the company NextVR raised $30.5 million in its first funding round. More importantly, VR isn't just entertainment—it can save lives. A children's hospital in Miami used Google’s Cardboard VR headset to simulate surgery before performing a complex operation on a four-month-old girl, helping her survive her first New Year. But for VR to become mainstream, it needs a solid ecosystem. Unlike smartphones, which have built a massive global network, VR is still in its early stages. As Li Jintao, CEO of Time Travel, pointed out, current hardware isn’t powerful enough to support high-quality VR content, and software development is also lagging. The future of VR will require not only better hardware but also new creative approaches. Directors will need to rethink storytelling, as viewers may look in any direction, changing the way films are made. This is a complete shift from traditional linear narratives. Currently, only 1% of computers are capable of running VR smoothly. That’s why the VR industry is heavily driven by hardware innovation. Without the right equipment, even the best VR content won’t reach its full potential. In 2016, we saw the rise of many new VR applications, marking what many called the “Year of VR.” But ultimately, success depends on building a sustainable ecosystem. When that happens, VR will move from the virtual world into our daily lives. Plano Convex Cylindrical Lens

Plano-convex cylindrical lenses feature a single plano and single convex cylindrical surface, while their focal length is positive. These lenses operate only in one dimension rather than two, compared to plano-convex spherical lenses.
Plano convex cylindrical lenses are utilized to compress light in 1 axis. In order to generate a line image from a point of light and to change the aspect ratio of an image, a positive (convex) Cylindrical Lens is used. It is also applied to focus collimated input light to a line. Plano convex cylindrical lenses are normally used for line detector arrays, anamorphic beam shaping, laser projection, laser line focusing, and illumination of slit.
