In the realm of technology, a significant development has recently taken place as a group of Chinese companies made a tender offer to acquire Opera, a Norwegian mobile browser company. The proposed acquisition is valued at 10.5 billion Norwegian kroner, approximately 1.23 billion US dollars. In a statement, Opera's board expressed its support for the offer, stating that they unanimously recommend shareholders accept the deal. In addition to the listed companies, two private entities—Golden Brick and Yonglian Investment—are also involved in the transaction. According to Opera, shareholders who have agreed to the deal hold 33% of the company's total capital.
Opera, a long-standing browser developer from Norway, has been in operation for two decades. It has established a strong presence across multiple mobile and desktop platforms. Despite competition from major browsers like Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, and Safari, Opera maintains a 2% market share on desktops, demonstrating its continued relevance in the industry.
