In 2016, the Urban Transport Authority ATM (Autoritat del Transport Metropolità ) began to exchange the electronic ticketing system in the central city of Barcelona from a magnetic stripe card to a chip-based ticket. In the second phase of the project, the system will be launched in the Catalonia region. The "T-Mobilitat" ticket will be issued as a traffic app or a card similar to a smart card.
