OSRAM Opto Semiconductors has introduced a new generation of Oslux LED technology, marking a significant advancement in camera flash solutions. The latest addition to the Oslux range, the S.2.1 all-in-one chip LED package, integrates two LED chips and a lens into a single compact module. This innovative design not only simplifies the manufacturing process but also delivers superior performance for mobile photography and video recording.
The Oslux S.2.1 is designed to provide uniform illumination with a brightness of up to 125 lux, ensuring clear and well-lit images from smartphones and other mobile devices. It features dual color temperature capabilities—6,000 K cold white and 2,250 K warm white—offering greater flexibility in lighting conditions. With a maximum color temperature deviation of just 300 K, it ensures exceptional color accuracy and consistency in every shot.
This module is not only compact, measuring 5.0 mm x 5.0 mm x 1.15 mm, but also highly efficient. By integrating the lens directly onto the PCB, it eliminates the need for additional assembly steps, saving time and optimizing light usage. The silicon lens also supports reflow soldering, making it easy to incorporate into standard production lines.
Fiona Mak, Product Manager at OSRAM Opto Semiconductors Germany, commented: "With the Oslux S.2.1, we've achieved very high quality. We conducted thorough photometric testing, and the results were very satisfactory. It fully meets our high-quality standards."
Looking ahead, OSRAM is already working on the next version of this product—the Oslux S.2.2, set to launch in early 2018. This new model will replace the silicon lens with an epoxy one, offering even greater durability and eliminating the need for a protective window. This change opens up more design possibilities for mobile device manufacturers. Additionally, the spectrally optimized converter in the S.2.2 will further enhance photo quality and performance.
