The future of Scotland or becoming a smart grid

A new research center in Campbellold, Scotland, will study the optimization of the smart grid, which costs € 12.5 million to build. The study can help renewable energy sources and increase their power generation efficiency. In addition, the Power Grid Demonstration Center (PNDC) will also strive to find ways to reduce transmission losses. Today, up to one tenth of the electrical energy is lost during transmission in the grid. The center will work to improve this situation.

The center uses its own microgrid to test new technologies, which was part of the Scottish smart grid strategy that was launched last year by the government in collaboration with Scottish Power, SSE, Scottish Enterprises and the Scottish Funds Council.

Frank Mitchell, chief executive of the Scottish Energy Network, said: "In the next half century, we will maximise the upgrading of the power network, which will attract billions of pounds of investment and create Thousands of jobs."
