At the World Internet Conference, Huawei was honored with the 3GPP 5G Scientific Achievement Award for its groundbreaking contributions to 5G technology. During the event, Huawei CEO Xu Zhijun shared insights into the company's ambitious plans for the future of 5G. He announced that Huawei would roll out a full-scale 5G network solution for large-scale commercial use in 2018, and by 2019, it would also launch support for 5G-enabled smartphones, including the newly developed Kirin chip designed specifically for this purpose.
In his speech, Xu Zhijun expressed deep gratitude to the conference organizers and all partners who contributed to the development of 5G technology. Since Huawei began investing in 5G research back in 2009, the company has worked closely with global partners to define requirements, develop technologies, and establish industry standards. He emphasized that today’s 5G system is a collective achievement, not just Huawei’s, and thanked everyone involved for their efforts.
He also highlighted the importance of mobile networks in shaping the digital world. Over the years, Huawei has provided one-third of the network equipment used by global operators, helping build the powerful internet and mobile infrastructure we rely on today. In addition to network solutions, Huawei has been a major supplier of smartphones to consumers worldwide.
When discussing 5G, Xu Zhijun pointed out that this next-generation technology will revolutionize user experiences. With 5G, downloading a 6GB HD movie could take less than two seconds, and the technology will connect up to 100 billion devices—making the Internet of Everything a reality. Moreover, 5G offers industrial-grade reliability and real-time performance, making it a key enabler for initiatives like Industry 4.0 and "Made in China 2025."
Huawei aims to lead the way in bringing 5G to the masses. By 2018, the company will provide comprehensive 5G network solutions to operators around the world, paving the way for a new era of connectivity and digital transformation. In 2019, Huawei will introduce 5G-compatible smartphones powered by its advanced Kirin chip, which also integrates AI capabilities to enhance user experience. This move ensures that consumers can enjoy the full potential of 5G as soon as possible.
Xu concluded by reiterating his thanks to the organizing committee and all those who have supported Huawei’s journey in 5G innovation. The speech reflected Huawei’s commitment to driving the future of communication and technology.
