Nikola Motors is a startup that designs and manufactures electric vehicles, energy storage systems and electric vehicle transmission systems. According to reports, the truck uses hydrogen fuel cells to provide electricity, with a range of 800 to 1200 miles (about 1287 to 1931 kilometers). According to the company, the Nikola One will be a zero-emission vehicle, and no heavy trucks have achieved such record fuel efficiency.

Nikola Motors said it plans to build 364 hydrogen refueling stations covering the United States and Canada, starting in 2018. The company also plans to build a 100 megawatt solar farm that uses solar power to convert water into hydrogen through electrolysis. In the future, the Nikola-type truck will transfer hydrogen fuel from the solar farm to the hydrogen refueling station. Complete zero emissions from the entire process of energy manufacturing to consumption.

Nikolai Motors said the truck is expected to begin production in 2020 and has received orders worth nearly $3 billion. The company is preparing to build a modern automobile manufacturing plant in the United States and will determine the site in the first half of 2017. The first batch of 5,000 Nikolai-type trucks will be produced by Nikola Motors in cooperation with truck manufacturer Fitzgerald.
