Yesterday afternoon, I worked on a Skyworth 6P18 movement machine that was experiencing some issues. The main symptoms were related to the failure of the tube and a cracked pulse capacitor. At first, I thought the problem was straightforward, but the user mentioned that the brown color appeared as yellow-brown. I decided to replace the two components, but after changing the boot, the tube broke again within a few seconds. I had no choice but to investigate further.
I started by temporarily replacing the component with an 1887, and monitored the current, which was around 400mA. However, the tube failed again after a few seconds. I immediately shut down the system and checked the temperature of the 1887—it wasn’t hot, so it didn’t seem to be the issue. I then checked the reverse capacitance, correction capacitor, and S capacitor, but everything looked fine when tested one by one.
At this point, I shifted my focus to the power supply line. The power supply filter capacitor (100μF/25V) and the coupling capacitor (10μF/25V), which are located near the field output, along with several power resistors in the vicinity, were likely candidates for failure or degradation. I replaced both capacitors and retested the system with the 1887. After running it for one minute without any issues, I replaced the 1887 with a J6920, and the machine returned to full normal operation. The brown and green colors were restored, and everything looked good.
