Yesterday afternoon, I repaired a Skyworth 6P18 movement machine that had some failure symptoms. After opening the cover, I found that the tube was broken and the pulse capacitor was cracked. At first, I thought the fault was easy to fix, but the user mentioned that the brown color was yellowish and brown. I started by replacing the two components, but after just a few seconds, the tube broke again. I had no choice but to check more carefully.
I first tried using a temporary replacement of 1887, and monitored the current, which was around 400mA. However, after a few seconds, the tube broke again. I immediately shut it down and touched the 1887; it wasn’t too hot, so I didn’t think it was the issue. I checked the reverse capacitor, correction capacitor, and S capacitor one by one, and they all seemed fine. So I shifted my focus to the power line.
The power supply filter capacitor (100μF/25V) and the coupling capacitor (10μF/25V) were close to the field output, with several power resistors nearby. There was a high chance of failure or degradation. I replaced both electrolytic capacitors and tested the machine with the 1887 for about a minute without any damage. Then I replaced the 1887 with J6920, and the machine worked perfectly. The brown and green colors were restored, and everything looked normal again.
