OLED panel large-scale application and large size are difficult to achieve in the short term

Core Tip: The recent news that Samsung has abandoned the production of OLED panels has spread throughout the industry. As a new generation of display technology that has rapidly gained popularity this year, OLED is superior to the current mainstream liquid crystal display in terms of display density, viewing angle, and thinness. Technology, however, its production process is complicated, the degree of marketization is low, and the price advantage is not obvious, and other factors make OLED TVs on the market, still in a wait-and-see period.

At present, only Samsung and LGD can produce large-size OLED TV panels. Although Samsung has denied the rumors of abandoning the expansion of OLED TV panel production lines, it has also exposed the uneven development of the OLED upstream industry chain.

Industry analysis pointed out that OLED is the future display technology direction that the industry is paying attention to. Currently, it is subject to factors such as some key technologies, low cost and low yield. There is still a long period of progress in the large-scale application of panels and large-scale industrialization.

Relevant institutions expect that OLED technology will be in parallel with the current mainstream TFT-LCD technology in the next 2-3 years, and OLED cannot replace LCD TVs in the short term. It is predicted that in 2014, due to supply problems, about 60,000 OLED panels will be shipped to mainland China.

Domestic machine manufacturers are supported by LG Display panel technology and plan to test OLED products in the May 1st market. It is understood that the current OLED TVs of the whole machine companies such as Skyworth, Konka, Changhong and others come from LG Display's WRGB OLED technology. In addition to LG, OLED panels produced by LG Display are also used by domestic manufacturers such as Skyworth, Konka, and Changhong. Skyworth and Konka will take into account both curved and straight OLED TVs, while the rest of the companies will focus on curved OLED TVs.

Regarding Samsung's rumors of abandoning OLED panel production, relevant sources pointed out that in terms of OLED technology, Samsung is the most advanced in the industry. Although Samsung does not mass-produce large-size TV panels, it still makes a lot of OLED screens on mobile phones.

It is also understood that OLED TVs are still in their infancy, OLED is a cumbersome technology, and these TVs are basically still in the prototype stage. However, if not, expanding production is still a huge challenge. You cannot build an OLED TV production line within a few days. It takes time and capital to build molds and machines, which will make them pay a huge cost. These manufacturers cannot risk a deep debt crisis and accelerate OLED production. When companies become overly optimistic and build new factories, their financial risks will increase.
