The program helps speed up the era of autonomous driving. These solutions include two system-on-a-chip (SoC) systems that simplify the development of vehicle-to-vehicle communication (V2V) and vehicle-to-road communication (V2I) communication systems. One of the solutions includes the R-Car W1R 760MHz band wireless communication SoC for the Japanese market, and the high-performance security engine essential for V2X systems, the new R-Car W2H communication processor SoC for the Japanese, US and European markets. . Other solutions include the R-Car W2R 5.9 GHz band wireless communication SoC combined with the R-Car W2H SoC, developed specifically for the US and European markets.
Renesas V2X solution for V2V and V2I communication systems
By combining these new SoCs, system developers can now easily develop systems that support the corresponding V2X standards in the Japanese, US and European markets. Renesas Electronics also offers an entry-level development kit that enables system developers to immediately begin application development and significantly reduce the development cycle of V2X systems.
Renesas' entry-level development kit for V2V and V2I communication systems
In October 2015, Renesas Electronics released the R-Car W1R, which complies with Japanese wireless communication standards and is used in ITS Connect (Note 1) V2V and V2I communication systems. It is the only device in the world with a proven application record and is currently commercially deployed in the V2X wireless SoC market. The R-Car W1R has been applied to the in-vehicle ITS unit developed by Denso. These devices are also used in Toyota's Crown, Prius and Lexus RX models, using vehicle and infrastructure communications to display traffic violations, cross traffic and pedestrian alerts, alerting drivers to emergency vehicles and assisting with cruise control and other functions.
In addition to the current V2X applications dominated by Japan, due to legislation and implementation of V2X technology, US and European investment plans for V2X are also being implemented steadily. At the same time, the different communication frequencies, communication standards and safety standards in these countries have led to the optimization of equipment for each region. To address these issues, Renesas Electronics offers a V2X kit solution that combines R-Car W1R or R-Car W2R with R-Car W2H. These kit solutions can be used to build systems that are best suited to each region at a low cost.

By combining the R-Car W1R for the Japanese market with the R-Car W2H, a system that conforms to the ARIB STD-T109 Japanese wireless communication standard and the ITS Connect security and communication standard can be implemented. Similarly, by combining R-Car W2R for the European and US markets with R-Car W2H, systems that comply with North American standards (IEEE 801.11p, IEEE 1609.x, etc.) or European ETSI standards can be implemented.
