National 973 Major Project "LED Manufacturing and Equipment Research" Launched in Shenzhen

The breakthrough in core and key technologies is a strong support for the development of high-tech industries. Following the launch of the first major basic research project of the 973 program in Shenzhen two years ago by the Advanced Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the joint research institute of Shenzhen Tsinghua University united Peking University and Huazhong Science and Technology Co. The research team of the company jointly undertakes 973 major projects in Shenzhen, the second country in the field of machinery, materials, optics, semiconductors, etc. --- "Study on key fundamental issues in high-performance LED manufacturing and equipment" on the 7th in Shenzhen start up.

It is understood that this project aims to provide a scientific and technological basis for leap-forward development of LED manufacturing in China. The total project cost is about 40 million yuan, and the chief scientist is Liu Yan, executive vice president of the Institute of Shenzhen Tsinghua University. According to reports, in 2010 China's LED lighting output value has reached 120 billion, of which Shenzhen local LED business sales broke 40 billion, accounting for 1/3 of the country. Experts and academicians attending the kick-off meeting think that Shenzhen LED industry occupies a pivotal position in the country. After the project is launched, it will lay the foundation for China to master key technologies for industrialization.
