Six major trends in international semiconductor lighting industry

The 2012 Semiconductor Lighting Technology and Application Innovation Forum with the theme of “Optimizing the LED Lighting Industry Layout and Realizing Leapfrogging Development” recently focused on issues and developments in the semiconductor lighting industry, technological development and new applications, and related standards development. The Secretary-General of the International Semiconductor Lighting Alliance (ISA), Yue Ruisheng, gave a speech titled “National Semiconductor Lighting Government Policy Measures and Global Status and Trends”. He believes that the international semiconductor lighting industry presents the following six trends:

1, National Governments attach importance to efforts to promote the industry

Countries in Europe, America, Japan and South Korea, and even South Africa and Indonesia have all attached great importance to the development of the semiconductor lighting industry and have successively introduced various stimulus policies. The Chinese government is no exception. Several ministries and commissions introduced policies to support the rapid growth of the industry. Governments of various countries attach great importance to and actively promote the semiconductor lighting industry, which is closely related to the characteristics of energy conservation, environmental protection, synergy, economic growth and employment increase. The industry expects that the luminous efficiency of LED lamps will reach 120 lm/W by 2015, and the penetration rate of the lighting market will reach 30%. The annual electricity saving will be 100 billion kWh and the carbon emissions will be reduced by nearly 100 million tons. Semiconductor lighting resources have low energy consumption and have lower energy consumption in the whole life cycle than traditional light sources. It is expected that in 2015, the energy consumption in the whole life cycle will be only 1/12 of that of incandescent lamps and nearly 1/3 of that of fluorescent lamps. Semiconductor lighting is a technology- and labor-intensive industry that will create more than 2 million jobs in the future, and semiconductor lighting will greatly benefit the transition to development. In China, semiconductor lighting has strong correlation with seven strategic emerging industries.

2, rapid technological development, upgrading and speeding up

Semiconductor lighting technology has developed rapidly. In 2010, the industrial level of high-power white LED light efficiency was 130 lumens/watt, which was increased by 10-20 lumens per watt per year, and the price dropped by 30%-40% annually. It is expected to reach 1,500 lumens/US$ by 2013.

3. Adjustment of industrial structure, cross-regional integration and reorganization

The next 3-5 years will be a critical period for the development of the industry. At present, the development trend of international large factories across regions and industries is significant. In the rest of the world, international giants have entered strongly and the speed of industrial integration has accelerated.

4, attach importance to the development of standards, occupy the lead as soon as possible

At present, the semiconductor lighting standard presents five major characteristics: 1. The standard precedes the product, or has already begun to formulate standards (interface module, outdoor lighting network software interface system management) at the research and development stage; 2. Allows several standards to exist at the same time; The final winner of the standard depends on the scientific nature and the number of products used; 4. Standard formulation requires strong scientific research and technical support; 5. Standard setting time is too long or the test time is too long to keep up with the speed of product updates.

5, the end of the industry value, a huge space for development

Philips & Netherlands National Institute of Applied Science stated that by 2020 the global lighting application market will reach 7 trillion yuan. Numerous market segments make it impossible for LED application products to replace traditional lighting products.

6. Focus on future applications and develop new areas

New types of application fields such as plant lighting, green plants, and animal husbandry have all found LED lighting. In the future, more extensive application space should be explored.
